I’ve been working hard behind the scenes for months on my new ministry for Christian women, CandidlyChristian.com. My goal was to create a safe place where women could be honest about their faith, failures, and forgiveness. Let’s face it, life isn’t always neat and tidy, being a Christian doesn’t change that.

Those of you who know my testimony, know that God has used the honesty of other Christian women to grow my faith more than anything else. Knowing that other Christian women don’t have it all together is a huge blessing. Knowing it’s okay to be less than perfect, what a relief!

I will never forget the first time a Christian woman admitted to me that she didn’t have it all together. She wasn’t just any Christian woman, she was our pastor’s daughter-in-law, super fit, a stay-at-home, super mom who was part of the worship team and an international missionary. I’m telling you, she was everything a good Christian should be, and she knew her Bible inside and out.

And then she confessed that she struggled with depression. That she questioned her faith because of an overwhelming feeling of worthlessness. This was super woman, and she struggled with some of the same things I did.

Another time the woman who hosted our Bible study confessed that her house wasn’t always as clean as we saw it each week. In fact, she said if we showed up unannounced at any other time during the week, that it would be a wreck.

Again, a huge burden was lifted. Not because I rejoiced in their struggles, but because it made me realize that struggling was okay.

Who knew it was okay to be less than perfect?

Her candid confession was a balm to my soul.

Many other candid confessions have followed. Some of them speak to me, others make me hurt for the women who are going through them all alone.

When I’ve shared my own candid confessions with other christian women, I usually get one of two responses.

Encouraging Support or Utter Condemnation

Sometimes well-meaning christian women come across the wrong way. Most of them don’t mean to, but it happens from time to time. And it happens often enough to make us scared to be honest.

We've reached the halfway point in our revelation study, and I wanted to take some time to look back over what we've seen so far. I've actually seen some repeating themes, and I think those are important to note, and I can't wait to see how they play out in the remaining 3 letters.

With that in mind, let's look back on the churches we've studied so far.

The church in Ephesus was recognized for their faithfulness to Christ and His teachings, but condemned for their lack of love.

Smyrna was faithful to the point of death. They had love, and they were praised for their perseverance.

The Christians in Pergamum had love and perseverance, but they were lacking in truth. They remained faithful to Christ, but not His teachings.

And finally, the church in Thyatira was praised for it's love, faith, service, and patient endurance, yet they lacked truth. They tolerated false teachings.

Over and over again, Jesus has commented on their love, faith, perseverance, and whether or not they hold to the truth of the gospel or allow false teachings.

Love, faith, perseverance, and truth. Those are the highlights of the first four letters.

Which brings me to my reflection.

Do we see those things in our own lives?

Do we keep Christ as our first love? ...or do we tend to drift away?

Is our faith in Christ (and Christ alone) enough to sustain us? Do we remain faithful to Him and believe He is in control of all?

Will we persevere when hardships come our way? ...or will we cave under pressure?

Will we stand up for the truth of God's Word, even if it means sacrificing our standing within our church, community or family?

Those are hard questions, but they are the ones I am reflecting on this week.

A less prominent repeating theme I saw in the first four churches, is works. Jesus said He knew the works of the first three churches, and the church in Thyatira was praised for their service. One of the ladies in my Bible study reminded us this week that faith without works is dead (James 2:20). That's something to remember as well.

Jesus knows your works. What does He know about you?

Do your works stem from love? Prompted by faith? Do they hold to the truth? Do they persevere under hardship? Do they exist at all...

I've been writing Bible studies for my church, writing books, and blogging for multiple websites.

In fact, on Tuesday this week, I shared an excerpt from the first book in my new Bible study series (read that post here). So far it's the only one that is available on Amazon, but all of the studies I've written are available for free...

Which is where I can only ask your forgiveness.

I realized on Tuesday that I neglected to tell my following here about my new website -- I actually share it with Mr. Amazing which is totally awesome.

All of the Bible studies I've been writing are available there.

You can even sign up to get the current series I'm writing via e-mail or follow along on my blog over there -- right now we are working our way through the letters Jesus wrote the the 7 churches in Revelation.

I really hope you check them out.

“Blessed are they
that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

~ Matthew 5:6

I have quite the sweet tooth.
My friends all got a kick out of it the day I posted a Facebook status that
said, “Help! I'm craving chocolate and have lost my M&Ms!” I scoured the
whole house up and down to find my giant bag of M&Ms that I keep hidden
from my children (I do share on occasion—really, I do).

I’m sure you’ll be relieved to
hear I found them and my craving was fulfilled, but what’s even better is the
way God has used that craving to draw me close to Him. It all started with a
question, “When was the last time I craved God enough to search Him out?”

We crave a lot of things:
chocolate, steak, a good book. But how often do we crave God or His Word?
That’s what the words Jesus spoke in Matthew 5:6 make me wonder. Do I really
hunger and thirst for righteousness? What would that even look (or feel) like?

And those questions led me to
the apostle Paul. I think Paul really understood this. He wrote to the
Philippians, “I long to know Christ and
the power which is in His resurrection, and to share in His sufferings and die
even as He died; in the hope that I may attain to the resurrection from among
the dead” (3:10-11 WNT).

Paul craved the righteousness
by hungering for more of Christ. Earlier in that paragraph he said he counted
everything else as a loss. He knew he didn’t have any righteousness of his own,
but only what he received by faith in Christ (vs. 7-9).

The knowledge of Christ is
there for the taking. His life, death, and resurrection are all recorded in the
Bible, all we have to do is open it with the intention of learning more about
Him. We can’t deepen our knowledge of Christ when we open God’s Word thinking
we already know everything it has to say. We have to be open for God to
communicate with us. We have to want to know Him more—to crave Him.

I loved the way one of the
women in my Bible study worded this. She said, “God is a gentleman. He waits for us to come to Him.” A.W. Tozer
said it this way, “God waits to be wanted.”
He doesn’t demand that we sit and eat. He doesn’t stand over us and tell us we
can’t start our day until we have spent at least half an hour reading His Word
and drinking in His Spirit. He waits patiently until we crave Him, and then He
fills us to the full.

When we draw close to God, He
fills us with peace, hope, love, joy, and so much more. Paul wrote in the book
of Romans that he wanted God to fill them with joy and peace so they could
overflow with hope (15:13). When we crave God, He does just that. He blesses us
with more of Him so we can live life to the fullest (John 10:10).

“It is written, ‘Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth
of God.’”

I know women are suppose to hide that sort of thing, but I'm not going to. Why? Because the first thing I've learned during the past 30 years is is that age doesn't matter. Not really. I don't care how old or young you are, it's who you are that really matters. In fact, over the past several years if you would have asked me how old I was, you probably would have got a puzzled expression. It's not something that's important to me, so I have to stop and do the math. I'll probably remember my age this year, though. It's a good round number. (If you haven't already figured it out, I just turned 30.)

Without further ado, here's 30 things I've learned in the past 30 years:

Age doesn't matter - see 1 Timothy 4:12

God is in control - even when you can't see His plan - see Romans 8:28

Jesus died for my sins (and yours) and I'm so thankful that I He did - see John 3:16-18

Everyone has feelings - no matter how hard they try to hide them.

No dreams are unrealistic if they are what you really want and you're dedicated to making them come true.

Water is good for you - but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Green smoothies make you pee.

There is no greater feeling than being loved.

Success comes and goes, but accomplishments last forever.

I'm not a pet person.

It's better to give than to receive.

The golden rule really is golden.

Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, we'll never be able to recognize them all - see #2

People are far more important than things.

Whiplash causes migraines - and they HURT! - see #2

The best way to fight depression is through praise and thanksgiving.

Everyone has an opinion, but that doesn't mean they are right. It's best to listen and pray - see #2

Imperfection is okay - see #3

Nobody is perfect - see above.

Words hurt, hearts heal, the love of God can carry you through anything - see #2

Things aren't always as they seem.

Forgiveness is a choice - see #3

You can't please everyone at the same time. It's best to what you need to do, and let God deal with the rest - see Galatians 1:10

True beauty is on the inside.

People will fail you, they are about as close to perfect as you are - see #19.

Having cute kids is both a blessing and a curse.

Spending time with like-minded people is essential - see Hebrews 10:25

It's easier to overthink things and worry than it is to trust God, especially when you should be sleeping - see #2

Not all good things are fun.

Life goes on.

The decorations. The love. The food. It’s just a joyous time of year. But can I tell you a secret?

Lean in really close…

I HATE shopping. I know I’m a girl and I’m supposed to enjoy it. But I don’t.

I don’t even like shopping during the regular part of the year, and it’s even worse at Christmas. The stores are packed with people, and even though this is the time of year when everyone is making a big deal about giving and caring – shoppers get nasty. You spend ten minutes trying to get down the canned food isle only to have someone behind you reach around to grab the last can of cranberry sauce. You stand in checkout lines for what seems like hours on end just to purchase that one gift you couldn’t find the first time you went to the store. It’s just not fun.

So last year, I made the decision to start doing all of my Christmas shopping online. The mailman and I became quite close friends during the days leading up to Christmas as he dropped off all my packages – and let me tell you – he was so much more friendly than any checkout attendant.

No lines.

No wait.

Front door service.

I liked it!

Turns out, I’m not the only one that does this. In fact, most businesses have picked up on it and are starting to post their Black Friday specials on their website – pretty cool huh?

One other thing I’ve learned is that books make great Christmas gifts! I love books – so maybe I’m biased. But you can give me a book any time and I’ll be thrilled (they are much preferred to clothes I will never wear or pretty trinkets my kids will break).

Plus, you can wrap them to go under the tree or stuff them in a stocking. They give you options. And, of course, one of those options is to buy them for yourself to read during the holiday season. I like to think of it as the two for you one for me theory. After all, if you order over $35 worth on Amazon you get free shipping. So tacking on that extra one is frugal.

Finding the right books can still be hard, which is why I wanted to let you know about the Clean Reads Holiday Book Sale going on over at BooklyBooks.com. They have over 30 paperback books listed that are on sale Black Friday through Cyber Monday – racking up over $100 in savings. AND they are giving away a $25 Amazon gift card. I’m personally fond of the romance novels, but they have multiple genres (fiction and non) listed. Check it out at: http://www.booklybooks.com/christmas-book-sale/ And I just found out that Amazon is offering an extra 30% off paperback books now through December 1st - awesome timing.

What about you? Obviously for Thanksgiving we have turkey with all the fixings, but I wanted to take a moment to share our exact menu with you - recipes and all. First, I have to tell you that I LOVE Allrecipes.com. I get all of my recipes there and don't know what I'd do with out it. So a lot of these will just be links - in which case you can click the title of the dish to be taken to the recipe.
I make this almost exactly as written. I do put it in an oven bag vs a roaster with a lid though. I found this recipe a few years back and it is simply amazing. It comes out as a mouth watering dish that is to die for. If you're not happy with your current turkey cooking method, I highly recommend giving it a try. Plus, it's crazy simple.

Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

I don't think a Thanksgiving meal can be complete without mashed potatoes and gravy - but they are also crazy simple. There are enough things to cook on the stove, that I use instant mashed potatoes and heat them in the microwave as a time/space saver. I do make my own gravy though. I boil the turkey neck and use that broth (and meat) for the gravy base - adding in any extra juice off the turkey if needed. Then I thicken in up with cornstarch. Pretty simple, but really good.

Sweet Potato Casserole

Again, I make this almost exactly as written. The only thing I change is that I use regular margarine (not the fat free stuff). I'll be honest, this is the only sweet potato casserole recipe that I've ever used, but everyone always loves it.

Campbell's Green Bean Casserole

Okay, This is just your basic Green Bean Casserole - but why mess with perfection (especially when I won't be eating it)?
Cranberry Sauce

In the past, I've always bought the canned, jellied cranberry sauce, but I made my own a few weeks ago with this recipe - and it was SOOO GOOD. So I'm making it on my own from now on... although, I may still buy one can of jellied for the kids. They aren't too fond of the whole cranberries in this recipe. I will say that I cooked mine on the stove vs. the microwave method recommended here, but that's the only change I made.

Stuffing

I dislike stuffing, but for the sake of my family I buy a box or two and mix it up. Nothing special, but they <strike>insist on</strike> appreciate it.

Deviled Eggs

I don't think I can really give you my deviled eggs recipe - as it's very much to taste. Obviously you hard boil the eggs and cut them in half. Mixing the yolks with other ingredients until you're satisfied. We use Miracle Whip, mustard, pickle juice, salt, pepper, and paprika if that helps at all.

Pumpkin Pie

I insist that everyone must eat pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving (except for my old roommate, Nita B. - but she's special so that's okay). It's one of my favorite parts of the meal. I use canned pumpkin and follow the recipe on the can - the only thing I change is that I use half the recommended cloves.

Pecan Pie

I have the best mother-in-law in the world, and she makes these for us with fresh Texas pecans. Yeah... she's awesome. She'll also bring some sort of sweet veggie salad - which are surprisingly good and crazy healthy. I really need to learn how to make them...

And that's it. Pretty simple really, but oh so yummy.
I love Christmas movies... well, okay - I love pretty much all things Christmas. But Christmas music and Christmas movies are two things that I never get tired of. Mr. Amazing... not so much. It was Christmasy and fun - the only two things required for a Christmas movie. I even got Mr. Amazing to watch it with me before he loaned it to his mom.

During a season of transition in my life, I found myself overwhelmed with negative emotions like self-pity and a complaining spirit. It was as if a dark cloud had descended over me. I prayed and asked God for wisdom on how to overcome these negative emotions. And I sensed Him leading me to do this 21 days of gratitude challenge.

Over the course of the 21 days, God began to change me as I spent intentional time being grateful for all I have been given. I did this through writing in my journal each day and also sending a hand-written thank you note to someone different each day.
It's said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit or break an old one, so why not spend the next 21 days forming a habit of spending time with God? If you've got 21 days, we've got 21 devotions specifically written for today's teen girls.
So I had to start reading books by... *gulp* other authors. It was scary - and sometimes still is. But I've found a new favorite author.

Jody Hedlund writes historical fiction at its finest. She has 5 books available right now - and more on the way. One of my favorite parts of each of Jody's books is the author's note. These books aren't just set in a historical time period, many of them are based off real people from history.

John Adams, John Bunyan, Marcus Whitman - these are all famous men from history that are the heros in some of Hedlunds book. When you read the author's note at the end, you get to discover who you're reading about and which parts of the book were true, and which ones weren't.

They are like little history lessons in the funnest package ever! I've often wondered if this is because Hedlund homeschools...

I actually first discovered Jody through her blog. Then I won a copy of her second book, The Doctor's Lady from a giveaway. I promptly bought her first book once I'd finished it (the day after it arrived). Jody's books aren't short - but they are gripping and hard to put down.

I've listed her books below with a short review of each one:

This novel is set in a puritan community in England in the 1650s. Hedlund gives you a glimpse at what life was really like for them. Life wasn't easy for the traveling preacher, or the young woman who stepped up to help out with his children - but this novel will have you rooting for them every step of the way.

Hedlund started this book with the historical account of the first two american women to cross the continental divide and creatively weaved fact and fiction into this captivating novel. The characters weren't always likable - but they were real. When reading the book, I felt their feelings deep in my soul. This is true historical fiction.
Unlike Jody's other books, this one isn't based off real people, but instead took on a real problem. Human trafficking. This historical romance exposes it for what it is in a way that is as tactful as possible. Set in 1883 Michigan, this book weaves romance and sibling devotion in a way I've never seen before. It's hard to write books that haven't been written before - but Hedlund nails it yet again.
Hedlund's 4th book doesn't disappoint. Set in 1881 in Michigan, this novel takes place in a small german community and tells the tale of a nobleman hiding as a farmer. The only disappointing thing? It's only 369 pages and I finished it in under 24 hours. I could hardly put it down!

Jody's most recent book was her best yet! Weaving the story of one historic couple with other events from the time period, this book was historical fiction at its finest. In 1763, Susannah Smith longs for the education that she's denied because she's female. Ben Ross is a poor farm boy and lawyer who's battling injustice. Their worlds collide and history is made. While you're deep within the pages, you'll pick up on some of the horrors of the time period, while the true heros rise to the surface.

I own all five - they rock. I have contemplated donating them to the library... but I'm a book hoarder when it comes to books that I like - and I REALLY like these!

Prayer Book

Depression, Purity, Acceptance, Peer Pressure – these are all issues that teen girls face today. But how do we deal with it?
Prayer is the avenue that is recommended the most. We hear all the time that if we are struggling with something, we should pray. But how do we do that?
In “21 Prayers For Teen Girls” Shelley Hitz and Heather Hart model prayers for dealing with many of the issues teen girls may be confronted with on a daily basis. They encourage teens to pray along and make a habit out of praying for God to mold them into the woman He created them to be – a woman whose true beauty is found in Christ.

Purposeful Planning by Phyllis Sather

Christian Living

“Late for an appointment, a man hurried out and hailed a cab. Jumping in, he said to the driver, “Get going and drive as quickly as you can.” After a few blocks, he impatiently asked, “Are we almost there?” “Almost where?” replied the driver. In his hurry the passenger had failed to give the driver the address of his destination.
That may seem like an unlikely story, yet today many people are so busy trying to keep up with the rapid pace of living, they haven’t stopped to consider what their goal in life is.” Millie Stamm
Our book Purposeful Planning will help you figure out what goals the Lord would like you to have as a person and as a family.

Thoughts on Being Left Behind by Phyllis Sather
At one time or another we all feel left behind – whether because of illness, loss of a loved one, or the busyness of parenting and/or homeschooling. The Godly Man's Picture & A Godly Wife by Puritan Thomas Watson

Spiritual Growth

The soul being so precious, and salvation so glorious-it is the highest point of prudence to make preparations for the eternal world. It is beyond all dispute, that there is an inheritance in light; and it is most strenuously asserted in Holy Scripture that there must be a fitness and suitability for it (Col. 1:12). If anyone asks, "Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord?" the answer is, "He who has clean hands, and a pure heart" (Psalm 24:4). To describe such a person is the work of this ensuing treatise. Here you have the godly man's portrait, and see him portrayed in his full lineaments.

Forgiveness Of Injuries by John Angell James
Spiritual Growth
"I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times;" thus inculcating a breadth of forgiveness widely removed from the narrow law of the Rabbis on the one hand, or the supposed liberality of Peter on the other. Let us examine, then, the basis on which this doctrine rests, and the arguments by which it is sustained.

I just recently started reading this devotional book. I don't know when I got it, I just found it on my Kindle... but I am loving it!

I was actually a little put off by the title, I thought it might be... well, to be blunt - just another Christian trying to make money from their faith. That sound harsh, but sadly I've seen it all too often. When writing becomes more about making money than it is about sharing God's word. Where the author shares opinion but doesn't convey God's love or His Word. I've started a lot of books like that and never finished them. Essentially, the author published a book instead of writing a blog - and then charged way too much for the unedited thoughts. As an author, that's hard for me to admit, because I've stooped there before - but God always brings me back. It's the reason that I give away all of my books for free in one form or another when asked - even the non-Christian ones (I also write about book publishing and marketing). But this book wasn't like that - and I probably got it on a free day.

What this book has been is simply AMAZING! I did just start it, but all the readings that I've read have said right what I needed, right when I needed it. It's feeding my soul - and most importantly, each short (very short) devotional is followed by a set of Scriptures to look up in your Bible. That's my favorite part - to have God's Word reinforce the lesson and speak to my soul.

Here's the description of this book from Amazon:

In the South, nothing is more refreshing than a glass of sweet iced tea. Nothing, that is, except experiencing God in those small, everyday moments. God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea is a deeply personal collection of spiritual treasures designed to help readers experience new mercies each morning. Seasoned with insight and grace, this tender devotional points to the divine presence of God in everyday moments. Whether purchased as a personal resource or given as a heartfelt gift, God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea will help readers develop a daily habit of turning to God in those quiet moments of reflection.

The progression of this book is perfect - it doesn't jump from topic to topic, but helps you grow from day to day. I really believe that any Christian would benefit from this devotional, but it does seem to be written with women in mind. It's available on Amazon.com for just 3 bucks - and well worth it! But I also found that this precious author does have a blog that you can follow for free and she does share devotions similar to those in the book there from time to time as well. You visit it here: http://writemomentswithgod.blogspot.com/Heather Harthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06815204762105256632noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6323751709367685259.post-19265372980108300292013-09-13T10:11:00.003-05:002013-09-13T10:11:34.569-05:00So Surreal...Most of you know we moved to Texas almost a year ago. We moved here to be near my husbands parents - however, hearing them talk about the drought and living in it are two different things. The water reservoirs here are expected to hit an all time low this year (read about it here). Entire towns have ran out of water - they are literally bringing in water with trucks to these poor people. Yet, in the cities they are still watering their grass (we would of course get fined majorly for doing so here in our small town).

It's dry, hot, and well... dry. We have no grass in our yard. Just dirt with a few drought resistant weeds that are sucking up what little water there is. hundred year old trees are dying from lack of water. The ground is cracked and brittle. I believe someone said that the top 4-6 inches of soil are completely cooked - meaning that even when we get rain, there are no nutrients left in which to grow anything. It's bad.

We moved here last November from Colorado. This morning I spent an hour on the internet looking at all the devastation that is going on there due to the massive flood conditions. They are calling it a 100-year flood. We lived in Colorado for years - it never flooded. The last flood on record was in 1999. The worst flood on record was in 1976 - that flood killed over 130 people. The current flood conditions have already surpassed those condition, thankfully only three have died.

It's surreal to sit here praying for rain to come to Texa, and for it to stop raining in Colorado.

It's surreal to look at the footage of the trails we use to hike on, streets we use to drive on, and buildings we use to go to, being swept away by rushing water.

It's surreal to know my friends and church family are stranded in their mountain homes, while we can come and go freely.

It's surreal - but I have to trust in God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. I have to trust that He has a plan, and that it is for the best.

It's surreal to trust His will, yet pray for the safety of those I love, and the provision for those around me.Heather Harthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06815204762105256632noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6323751709367685259.post-20058556670220231752013-09-10T09:55:00.000-05:002013-09-10T09:55:21.891-05:00Book Review: The Miner's Lady

Not too long ago, I read "Distant Dreams" which is a book that Tracie Peterson wrote with Judith Pella - and after that horrible experience, I was determined never to pick up a book by either author again... so much to my horror, "The Miner's Lady" by Tracie Peterson arrived in the mail less than a week later. I had requested a free copy from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review - so I had to read it.

The positives - unlike, "Distant Dreams" this was a full length novel - with an ending and everything. And as with all of Tracie's books that I've read, it actually had a really good story line. The characters were believable and it was just an all around good story... just not good enough for me to chance another disaster of a book without an ending. Had I read this before "Distant Dreams." I might have given it 5-stars. But the damage has already been done, and this book just didn't make it up to me.

Overall, if you like Tracie Peterson, then you will probably like this book. In fact, if you like Christian Historical Fiction, then this book will probably be a good read for you. I just can't say the same for Tracie's other books.
As stated above, I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Today, I'm happy to host Emma Right here on my blog. She's going to tell us about her new book, "Keeper of Reign." I haven't read this book, but she say's it's a "young adult Christian fantasy has a christian theme although it is not a preaching sort of book. More of an alternative for moms and grandmas looking for an alternative to Harry Potter/ vampire type fiction for their readers 11 and up."

So, Emma, how did you come to write "Keeper of Reign"?

When I first began writing Keeper of Reign in January 2008 it was just a story I made up for my five kids, then younger. They wanted a fun, adventure story set in a fantastical setting and as a mom, I wanted the story to be more than just a fairy-tale. I wanted them to learn about the importance of loving each other--as they grated on each other a lot --and the importance of family, and the value of persevering and so on. So I wove these themes into the tale, at the time called Kingdom of Reign. Then I thought, hey, maybe I could publish this…hence the journey to self-publishing. So it did take me a long time--6 years in all! I sure took my time.

What do you hope "Keeper of Reign" accomplishes?

I wanted to write an allegorical fantasy about the fall of man and the redemption story set in a fantasy setting that's filled with danger and adventure. Something young readers can enjoy but still have a Christian message.

I hope my readers (11 and up) can see that with the power of the gospel, we can overcome our problems and difficulties. I want to empower young readers with this message, that if they seek the truth (the Ancient Books, in Keeper of Reign) they will find wisdom and answers to life's problems. It doesn't mean the answers are going to come easy, but persistence will pay off, and the BIble has the answers.

Which character spoke to you the most during the writing process? Eleazer in the prologue. He's the King's helper, and he knew the King personally, yet even he felt fear, and didn't have total confidence that what the King had left for the people of Reign, Books written in the King's own blood, was enough to overcome Gehzurolle (german word for "confounder'). And that feels like how things are for me sometimes. Even after all the miracles I have seen and witnessed I still have fear, and that is what the enemy will use to try to overcome me.

Will there be a Book 2 for Keeper of Reign?

Yes. I hope to get this out by early 2014. And, in fact, some readers have asked for a prequel to Keeper of Reign, and I am planning on that, too. But maybe it won't be such a thick book. More like a novelette for those wanting to know how Reign's condition came to be.

For my authorly friends, what did your editing process look like after you had an initial manuscript, and did you have anyone help you in that effort?

I hired an English professor, and then after that I hired another line editor, but I must confess, I still see mistakes. But there comes a point when I feel I have to move on. And also I have found that some of the minor "errors" are subjective, as every editor has his/her little quirks as to what is deemed as grammatically correct. I would never print my book without at least one editing professional. I have minor dyslexia and tend to reverse even simple words like "it" becoming "ti" etc. So I NEED an editor.

The newest movie from Veggie Tales made for a great summer family movie night earlier this month. We were sent a free review copy and my kids cheered when it arrived. I think my favorite memory was when our youngest daughter yelled, "FUNNY!" right in my husbands ear near the end of the movie. We were already laughing but that just made it seem even funnier - though I don't remember exactly what had us laughing in the first place. The whole film was chocked full of classic Veggie Tales humor.

As always, we loved the silly song with Scottish Larry and watched the sing-a-long version repeatedly after the film was over - at least before the kids re-started the movie to watch it all over again - Though, we don't wear kilts here in America... Oh well, my bonnie lies over the ocean.

While the kids laughed and giggled at Bob and Larry and all of their friends, I think the moral of this story was more for the parents. The lesson? To accept your kids for who God made them. But that's not all you'll take away from this movie...

MacLarry and the Stinky Cheese Battle tells the tale of two rival cities who prank eachother. Starting out as a friendship gone bad, there's a sub message about kindness and friendship - I think it's a great way to introduce (or rehash) the topic of bullying to your kids. This has been a hot topic in our home as our younger son has been the victim of bullying and our older son can be a bit of a bully - but he thinks he's just having fun. This movie opens the door to talking about how 'having a little fun' can go wrong and quickly escalate into something more.

The only thing I found wrong with this movie was that the lesson they were trying to teach - That your talents - though different - are special and needed. It was more of the Veggie Tales version of How To Train A Dragon... only with Romans instead of Dragons. MacLarry never really appeared to struggle with his love of inventing - only the fact that his father couldn't accept him for who he was.

I guess my kids would say another downside worth noting is that the only bonus features on the DVD are the two sing-a-long songs. They always enjoy the games, story books, etc. and this one doesn't have that. It does have printable activities available on the website though, but nothing interactive. But the film itself is AWESOME as always.

The Missing Piece by Carol McCormick

Romance

How does a man pick up the pieces when his world crashes around him? Misplaced priorities shattered his marriage. Problems almost crushed him. Love motivated him to mend the damage, once he found all the pieces.

After only a few months of marriage, Lorraine left Dylan on a wintry night after he'd spent one too many nights out with the guys. Unable to cope with the loss, Dylan escapes the painful feelings by drinking them away. When he's released, he returns home in search of a job to get his life...and his wife back.

THE MISSING PIECE is not only a love story about a man who loves a woman, but is also a love story about a merciful God who loves mankind, even when he falls. The novel is an emotionally-charged journey of hope and redemption with a touch of spunk, a hint of humor, and a few twists along the way.

Another Second Chance by Troy Lewis

Inspirational

Imagine in your darkest moment, as you lay on deaths door step; The God of the universe reaches down (in the most amazing, miraculous way) and hands you the ultimate second chance. Then does the same thing for your brother the very next day!! ALL because a stranger from a 1,000 miles away, was convicted by God to give his kidney away....

This is a very powerful book about the author's experience in facing the ups and downs of kidney disease--After playing Jesus Christ in a local passion drama for 9 years, his world is turned upside down; As he states in the first chapter, "this would cause me to question who I was, all that I had believed, and God himself." We live through Troy's journey and the emotional and spiritual roller coaster with him, but always we sense God in control of the situation-even when all seems hopeless.

This book tells the story of Moses and how God used an ordinary man and shaped the events of his life to bring him to the place where he could be mightily used to accomplish God's purposes.

Did you know that God is a dreamer? He is, and one day he had a dream, and he thought to himself…“Who will I get to fulfill this dream?” Then he made you. He created you to fulfill a dream. You are made for a purpose.

At one time or another we all feel left behind – whether because of illness, loss of a loved one, or the busyness of parenting and/or homeschooling. These timeless pieces, written by someone who went from the life of an active and involved woman to a near invalid within just a few weeks, speak to the heart of anyone who feels like they've been put on the shelf and possibly forgotten.

Christians are not meant to live in defeat, below their God-given potential or in any kind of bondage (physical, mental or otherwise). In this book, In Christ, I Am: God's Promises on Who You Are in Christ that Will Transform You from the Inside Out, you will discover over 150 truths from the Bible about who you are, what you can have and what you can do as a child of the Most High God.

Each Bible promise is presented as a declaration affirming what God says about you. It begins with "I am..." and is followed by a Bible truth and corresponding Scriptures written in first person so you can confess and receive the life-transforming word into your heart. A very inspiring book that motivates, strengthens, enlightens and encourages us to believe that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us!

Example? On my birthday this year my entire family was sick - thus my children think I'm still a year younger than I really am. We've actually had mock arguments about whether or not I had a birthday this year. I really did - it just passed with no notice. It's a trend in my life. Once when I was still in elementary school I had a sleep over on my birthday and my sister somehow convinced all of my friends to go sleep in her room - and I wasn't invited. Another year she did makeover's for all of my friends during my Superbowl party - knowing full well that I was allergic to make-up.

So I've come to expect little from holidays. Mother's Day is no different. It started out with me over-sleeping. We had planned to go to church with my in-laws, but their service starts 20 minutes before ours and I can't stand walking in late - which we always do anyway. So at 10:37 when we were finally all ready to go (7 minutes after the service started), I declared that it was too late to go to their church and we detoured to ours. I felt guilty all the way through service about making that selfish decision.

After church was over we stopped by the store to pick up my Mother-in-law's flowers and cake. While we were there we ran into one of the ladies from my in-laws church. She asked us how my Father-in-law was doing. Mr. Amazing said we were on our way to their house, but when we talked to them earlier in the week they were doing well. So she suggested that we detour to the hospital. He had fallen down the steps at the church that morning after Sunday school and had to go to the ER. Thankfully, other than the concussion, and gash on his head, he is doing well and they were just leaving when we got there. However, he wasn't allowed to eat for 24 hours, so the cake that we bought went un-touched. We had also hoped to take them out to eat, and well... that didn't happen either. All-in-all, I think it would be fair to say that my Mother's Day was 100 times better than my Mother-in-law's.

We ended up going out to eat without the in-laws. I would have loved to have them there, but we still had a pretty good time. Despite the fact that the restaurant burnt my chicken.

The best part of my day? After we ate Mr. Amazing and the kids took me to the bookstore. They know how nerdy I am :) I got 4 books and a membership card to Books-A-Million - he spoils me. I can't say that it was a great day, but I got new books so it wasn't all bad :)

About the Book, Body Image Lies Women Believe:

Are you insecure about your looks?

Have you ever compared yourself to someone else and found yourself wanting?

Do complements or put downs determine the image you have of your beauty?

Real Stories of Overcoming Body Image Lies Women Believe with God's Truth

Throughout this book, Christian women share their stories of how they have struggled with body image lies and a distorted view of themselves. However, each of their stories also contains hope - the hope of replacing these lies with God's truth. Our prayer for you is that you find encouragement within these pages and allow Christ to transform you with His truth.

We Are Each Created Unique

God has created each one of us with unique abilities, unique talents and a unique personality. As women we are influencers and God has given us that role and our beauty to share with others. Yet so often we settle for a counterfeit. The enemy has counterfeited our idea of beauty, convincing us to share our beauty with the world in a distorted way. Today that often means that we see our beauty as what we look like on the outside.

What Lies Have You Been Believing?

Join us for the journey of replacing body image lies with truth from God's Word.

We are still surrounded by boxes, but we have the necessities taken care of and room to unpack the rest. However, while I've been MIA from the online world, God has been teaching me a lot. We had a women's event at church on Saturday and while I didn't overly relate or become inspired by the speaker, she did say one thing that really stuck with me. She referenced the many failures of David - the one the Bible refers to as the man after God's own heart.

Most of us know that David was an adulterous murderer, but she didn't stop there, she brought up the point that his children were... well, we'll say less than perfect as well. So many times as Christian women, we feel like our children are a direct reflection of us as Christians. When they mess up, or repeat something that we said or did that we know is wrong, we feel like failures. David's son raped his sister - I can't imagine how I would feel if one of my boys did that (to anyone, but even more so to their sister!). I would feel like a wretched failure and blame myself in some way - I'm pretty sure of that much. But look at David. God said about him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ (Acts 13:22) - God saw David for what was in his heart - not for his failures and the failures of his children. That's a message that I needed.

I've been too focused on my failures - so much so that I've been hiding the light that God has given me for fear of messing up. That's not what He wants for me, and it's not what He wants for you either. It's not about us. It's not about our imperfections or successes. It's not about our motives. It's not about us at all. It's about what Christ has already done. God just wants us to come as we are.

If you've followed my blog or know me in real life, you probably already know that I suffer from migraines. They started back in 2008 when I slipped on some ice and fell down the stairs in front of our home - carrying one of my twin girls that was just a few months old at the time. She was fine - I, on the other hand, cracked my elbow and got whiplash. The whiplash triggered migraines that have just never went away. Seeing a chiropractor helped for a while, but since we recently moved, I haven't found a new one yet. So today, I pulled out this list of Scriptures that I compiled several years ago to help me deal with the pain - and then I realize that I never posted them here.

If you've ever dealt with migraines, you already know that they aren't fun. I hope that God can use these in your life as He does in mine. I find them both encouraging and strengthening:

Mr. Amazing has a wonderful job working for the local phone company. They also do internet and television, so we were blessed with free cable. Although I'm not sure "blessed" is the right word. Mr. Amazing and I debated it for several months before I finally caved and let them install our free cable and I still have really mixed feelings about it.

On the one hand, I love Bubble Guppies. They are so darn cute! Also, we use to live off of library movies, but the local library here doesn't have a huge selection, and none of them are really what I want the kids to be watching. But on the other hand, there are so many things on TV that I don't want my kids exposed to. They all learned the very first day that we would NEVER watch Sponge Bob in this house. If I ever catch them watching it, the TV will be gone within seconds. They have diligently obeyed that rule.

And then there are shows like Max and Ruby. Max is this chubby little rabbit who likes mud pies and is being raised by his big sister, Ruby. Max is a bad little rabbit. He directly disobeys his sister on every show that I've seen, and what does she do? She laughs at his disobedience. At first, I was awed by her kind spirit, but now I'm seeing a different side of it. He continually disobeys because he gets away with it - I mean, wouldn't you? If you knew you didn't have to listen to what your mom/adult in your life said because she'd just laugh if you did it anyway? I might even disobey to get her to laugh. The show is teaching the worst kind of sin. Selfishness and disobedience.

Admission: I really thought that Ruby was Maxes mom, but apparently they don't have parents, just a grandmother who visits on occasion... I'm not sure if that makes the whole thing better or worse.

Have any of you seen this show? What are your thoughts on it? What shows do you let your children watch on TV?

Last week I told you about the house that we are planning on buying. This is it. It's a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath 1 story home. We'll have a 2 car garage and live in a wonderful neighborhood. I'd love to show you photos of the street we'll live on from Christmas, but I couldn't find any. This is "THE" street to go down during the Christmas season. It's a dead end road, but they line the entire thing with candy cane sticks and lights - then they lay out the 12 days of Christmas on big wooden signs. The north side of the street has the first 6 days and the south side has the last 6 days. It's pretty awesome.

Are you ready to go inside?

This is the entryway. It's too small to be anything useful, but it's there. We're hoping to knock out the wall eventually and make it bigger, but for now, it's just an entry way.

This will be the living room. It's actually the original garage that they used as an addition to the house. The downside? See that itty-bitty window. Yeah, it's the only one in the room. We'll eventually put in a window on the front side of the house to this room, but until then, it will be a bit dark.

And this is the guest house. A little bit of history, this was the original house that the original owners lived in before they built the big house. It's kind of like a stucco cabin. I mentioned earlier this week that I'm studying the book of Jonah. I'm actually going through a book called, Lord, Teach Me to Study the Bible in 28 Days by Kay Arthur - and I have some pretty mixed feelings about it. Some days I read 2-3 chapters (days) at a time and still feel like I didn't get any where, other days - like today - one chapter is all it takes for her to help me find something amazing. The best part is, that while she sends me on "Bible Errands" as I'm calling them, she doesn't tell me any answers. At first, this really annoyed me - especially during the days where she thought I would learn something astounding and I obviously didn't see the dots that she thought I would connect. But today, it was a good thing. Here's what I found (yes, we're still in chapter 1):

Most of the time when we read the book of Jonah, our focus is on Jonah. But have you ever stopped to look at the other people on the boat with him? I relate so well to these people. I go about my life until a storm hits, and then I look to the false gods in my life to fix it - I pray to the false god of reason, I offer sacrifices to the false god of time, and I bow down to the false god of other humans. And finally, when none of those things work, I suck it up and decide to fix it myself. I start doing everything in my power to "lighten the load" or save myself. Just like the sailors did.

When the storm came upon the ship, they prayed to their false gods and they tried to solve the problem for themselves, and finally, they gave up and decided that Jonah held the key - and he did. And while Jonah held the key, he wasn't the key himself, the key was his God - our God. And God holds the key to solving our problems as well.

As the sailors listed to Jonah tell them how to solve the problem, they rejected it. Throw him overboard?! That's absurd! Have you ever said that to God? I have. I'm like, "God, I know You know best - but that's a stupid idea." So just as the sailors kept struggling to try to save themselves, I do the same thing. God's already shown me the way to go, and I'm too stubborn to follow Him.

Of course we all know that the sailor's eventually gave in and threw Jonah overboard, and of course he was swallowed by a whale. Everyone talks about how him being in the belly of the whale for 3 days and nights was a picture of Christ in the tomb, but did you ever stop to realize that God also used him to save the men on the boat?

These men were scared for their lives and knew that Jonah held the key - even if it wasn't the solution they were hoping for. But they did what he said, and they were saved. He willingly (yes, being thrown overboard appears to have been Jonah's idea) sacrificed himself for them - he was their savior... and not just the savior of their lives, but he also pointed them to the one true God. Because of Jonah's sin, they came to know and worship God. The last few verses of Jonah chapter 1 says that they made vows to Him, now I don't know what kind of vows those were, but I'd like to think that they dedicated their lives to Him (but again, I don't know for sure because it doesn't say).
...My girls have woken up and emerged from their room and disturbed my entire train of thought, so I guess I'm done now. Oh the joy's of being a mom.Heather Harthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06815204762105256632noreply@blogger.com0
