Outfit of the day

I have been following a wonderful blog series entitled "She wear's skirts", it has been packed full of great information and insight by both moms who wear skirts and husbands view points as well. This week they have asked us all to take photo's of our outfits, just to give each of us an idea of what wearing skirts everyday looks like, then we are all going to link up later this week. Because I have company this week, I wasn't sure that I would be able to participate, but thankfully, my mom took a few photos of me today. They weren't planned, and aren't perfect. But they truly are me in everyday life, wearing skirts!

To give the run down, I was wearing a light blue denim skirt, with a dark blue tank top, covered with a white mesh jacket. I was sporting a dark blue baseball cap and flip flops. :)While helping my darling daughter learn to ride a bike.

Another great blog that does a weekly outfit of the day link up is True Femininity. She is a young college aged woman who wears skirts and dresses. It's a lovely blog. Her views on modesty aren't quite to the point of the ladies that are writing the She Wear's Skirts series, but she still does a great job living her faith in the world we are in.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I'm following the link-up today as the 'skirt-wearing' idea has really been a challenge to my thinking :) Although I consider myself a modest dresser, there is something to skirts :) I haven't yet ventured into the land of skirts (I'm 8mths pregnant, so I'm waiting till after the baby!) it's been fun to go around and read why all of you DO wear skirts! :)

  11. I love denim skirts too! Thanks for replying on my blog post. Something you might want to share with your husband, regarding little girls wearing skirts. The style of the skirt is a big part of it. MiniMe now wears the ankle-length skirts by choice, but when they were younger (the older girls are now 8), they mostly wore either "play dresses" (simple cotton loose-fitting dresses)or skirts like the brown one Sassy is wearing in the picture with my dad. They come to just below the knee, are loose enough to be able to run/jump/bike etc in them, and are a heavy enough fabric to not fly up (I found them on clearance when the girls were toddlers and bought them in every size LOL). Until a year or so ago, they wore shorts under their skirts in the summer and leggings or tights in the winter, so that we didn't have problems with showing their underwear once they learned to keep their skirts down, it was their choice to wear shorts/leggings or not, and they generally choose not (unless they're cold in the winter). . . but these types of skirts have really worked well for my girls, and they're as active as they come!

Something I've observed as they've grown, is how much "starting out right" influences their "personal style" now that they're moving into the "tween" years. I'm sure the lack of "peer pressure" since we homeschool, helps too. But at this age they don't WANT to wear anything but skirts/dresses. And modesty is what they are comfortable with. Last summer, we ended up playing in the same creek in my pictures, but w/o planning ahead & I didn't have a change of clothes for them. I did have a long wrap skirt of mine that I keep in the car in case the toddler spills on me, etc, so I tied it as a "halter dress" for Sassy. She was COMPLETELY uncomfortable with her shoulders showing, because we always wear short sleeves, never sleeveless. Even just at our friends' house with other girls, she hated it. . . that really brought home to me how much NOW is influencing how they view modesty as they get older, and the more we can instill a sense of modesty in them now, while they're little, I think the better it's going to serve us when they're older and needing to make their own decisions. I'll be praying that God will lead you and your husband to the decision that is His will for your children!

  14. I just came across this post and was wondering where you purchased your skirt. I love it and adore the combo you came up with. I have had the hardest time finding skirts that are casual enough for everyday living and still look cute. Thanks so much!

  15. Hey Jen! I get 99.9% of my clothes at thrift stores. Sorry that probably isn't very helpful to you :( But I have found that thrift stores have a vast selection of skirts. I got this one and two others like it one day at The Arc.
